The Third Sunday of Easter

April 19, 2026 — Bishop’s Visitation

Two disciples walk the road to Emmaus, stunned by grief, stumbling through the strange news that the tomb is empty. A stranger joins them. They do not recognize him. He walks their road, listens to their sorrow, and opens the scriptures to them — and still their eyes are closed. It is only when he sits at their table, takes bread, blesses, breaks, and gives it to them, that they finally see. And then he is gone.

This Sunday we welcome The Rt. Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent, Bishop of Maryland, on her first official visitation to Saint John’s. We gather in one combined service at 10:15 a.m. for Holy Eucharist with Confirmation and Reception, joined by our friends from St. Mark’s, Lappans, and St. Anne’s, Smithsburg. It is a day for recognizing Christ in one another — in the laying on of hands, in the breaking of bread, in the strangers who become kin.
