ON THIS FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER our scripture readings continue to reflect the magnificent news of the Resurrection. In our reading from Acts, Peter quells some ugly controversy over Jews versus Gentile in the Early Church, even sharing a vision from the Holy Spirit. In Revelation, St. John the Divine is given a vision of a new heaven and a new earth, and a time when our Lord will make all things new. In the Gospel reading, St. John shows us our Lord at the Last Supper, offering “a new commandment, that you love one another.” Many of these Sundays of the Easter Season have nicknames or sub-titles like “Good Shepherd Sunday” last week and “Rogation Sunday” next week. No special title applies to today, but it is clearly a day that celebrates the glory of the Easter Season!
