The Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

July 19, 2026 · Proper 11, Year A

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. — The Collect of the Day

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells of a field where wheat and weeds grow tangled together. The servants want to pull the weeds at once, but the householder counsels patience: let both grow until the harvest. It is a word of caution for those of us quick to sort the world—and one another—into good and bad. The sorting, Jesus says, is not our work. Ours is to grow where we are planted, trusting God, “the fountain of all wisdom,” who knows our necessities before we ask. There is mercy in that patience: room for grace to do its slow, quiet work in every heart, including our own. This Sunday we sing “Come, labor on,” a fitting word for a summer field. The laboring is ours; the harvest is God’s. Welcome the stranger. Welcome one another. Welcome Jesus.

✚ Summer Pickup Choir
Choir call is at 9:45 a.m. in the choir room. We rehearse the hymns and service music for the day, then sing for the 10:15 a.m. liturgy. No robes, no processions, no anthems, no weeknight rehearsals, and no pressure to join the choir in the fall (though we really hope you will). Children, youth, and adults are all welcome and encouraged to participate.

✚ Counters Needed
The Stewardship & Finance Commission is seeking Counters, scheduled weekly by the Parish Office to work in pairs counting and recording the plate offerings and depositing them at our bank. This important ministry was paused during the COVID shutdown, and we would like to reinstate it. If interested, contact Dan Meyer at cmagha@hotmail.com.

The Service and Outreach Commission needs you! Mini Meals to Go provides five shelf-stable meals to 100 families in our community. Help is needed in the form of donations and volunteers. To donate, please give cash or check with “Mini Meals” in the memo line.
